They can be used for weighing high-volume or heavy samples with a high degree of accuracy, chemicals and powders in laboratories (with 50-100 mg precision), ingredients for recipe making, baking, and soap making, inventory counting of parts, and soil testing.

DETECTO’s DP series digital precision balance scales have a round 5-pin connector port located on the left side of the scale display that may be used to send weight and associated data to a printer or other RS232 device using an included 6.6 ft (2 m) cable with a DB-9 female connector. The port can be configured to send data continuously, send when a stable weight is obtained, or when the PRINT key is pressed.
