Intrinsically safe digital precision platforms for use in automated processes with approval for use in Zone 1 hazardous areas, designs EDE and IGG: also in Zone 21. With capacities ranging from 0.001g to 300 kg, these platforms meet the demands of the automated process industry for fast and reliable results, high precision, rugged construction, direct integration in control processes and network connectivity. All precision platforms are equipped with monolithic weighing systems, built-in motorized calibration weights, integrated overload protection and electrical preload compensation.
These platforms can be individually configured for the conditions prevailing at the place of use, with parameters for weighing capacities, filters and stability. Up to two precision platforms can be connected to a Combics® EX indicator. Not only that. these platforms can be connected over a Zener barrier / Interface converter to Sartorius controllers of the X-Series (installed in the safe area) for use as weighing sensors in a wide range of applications such as batching, dosing, filling and more. The equipment supplied with the platforms includes certified verification of intrinsic safety covering all components that can be connected to the system. This special service provided by Sartorius makes it easy to generate the documentation of explosion protection required within the scope of occupational safety regulations. Reliable measurement results are guaranteed by the powerful built-in A/D converter and the use of intelligent software algorithms. Ambient interference factors such as temperature changes or vibration are filtered out automatically.

Flexibility for use in hazardous areas with potentially explosive gas or dust atmospheres
The IS-X series of intrinsically safe platforms can be used in Zones 1 and 2 (gases) and, independently of their maximum weighing capacity and IP rating, even in Zones 20, 21 and 22 (dusts). These platforms have ATEX, FM and CSA approval.
This series of platforms features a monolithic weigh cell and intelligent communication capabilities for use in automated systems in hazardous areas. If you later decide to retrofit the platform with an on-site display, no problem! IS-X series platforms are compatible with other Sartorius products, for instance, with the Combics Ex indicator, that enables you to connect two IS platforms. All practical combinations with other Sartorius products are documented in the Verification of Intrinsic Safety diagrams that are provided with each platform. In addition, the standard RS-485 interface (RS-232C|TTY 10 mA optional) enables the IS-X platform to communicate directly with a PC, PLC or other controller.
IS-X platforms can be networked with up to 8 devices
You can choose to power IS-X platforms using power supplies located within or outside a hazardous area or a rechargeable battery pack (see also “Accessories”).
The most advanced weighing technology for reliable weight readouts
The monolithic weigh cell in IS-X platforms enables high resolution of approx. 600,000 digits. In combination with the evaluation electronics for display, these platforms deliver reliable weight readouts in less than 1.5 seconds – even when exposed to temperature fluctuations. The platforms can also be optimally adapted to the particular place of use thanks to the configurability of various filter and stability criteria.
The standard built-in motorized calibration weight makes it easy to monitor and control the accuracy of the IS-X scales used as inspection, measuring and test equipment.
Built-in overload protection safeguards the IS-X platforms in tough industrial environments. A configurable, electrically compensated preload of up to 20% of the weighing capacity lets you weigh using installed equipment on the platform, without reducing the scale’s original capacity.
Use in legal metrology
Intrinsically safe IS-X platforms are also available in a version that is verifiable for use in legal metrology: accuracy class K. The scales’ test certificate has been issued for compliance with EN 45501 (1992) and OIML R76-1 (1992). In addition, the platforms can be configured as multi-interval and multiple range scales.
The explosion-protected indicators of the Combics 3 series from Sartorius are ideally suited for use in hazardous areas where explosive gas and dust mixtures occur (Zones 1 and 21).
The many possibilities for combining Combics 3 explosionprotected equipment is characteristic of todays flexibility. You can have a complete weighing solution in stainless steel with Combics explosion-protected platforms (standard capacities up to 3 t). If you need a precision platform with high accuracy along with your high-capacity platform, you can connect an additional digital platform to the Combics 3 display and control unit.
An even broader field of weighing applications is opened up by the seamless integration options for the entire range of load cells from Sartorius. The Ex approval rating on Combics indicators is extended to all components. This lets you take advantage of the full performance potential of the Combics
Documents verifying intrinsic safety are included with your explosion-protected Combics 3 indicator to make your system configuration simpler and more economical.
The Combics data interfaces with upgradeable modules ensure future-proof capabilities for documentation, data transmission and networking. The flexibility of the Combics 3 indicator includes the power supply options as well. Simply choose the basic indicator model you need and use the power supply that best suits conditions in your premises at any given time. You can use a 110 to 230 V power supply located inside or outside the hazardous area or opt for a 24- V industrial module for 19" installation in a control panel. An external battery pack is also available for mobile operation.
Thanks to the application programs integrated into the explosion-protected Combics 3 indicator, you can upgrade or configure your indicators functionality at any time, depending on the tasks at hand. Use Combics 3 as a simple weight indicator for platforms and weigh cells with all the benefits of convenient operation and configuration and the excellent readability of its backlit graphical display, or as a sophisticated terminal with application programs, such as checkweighing, classification or filling.
